A Lenten Journey - A Modern-Day Psalm

Won’t you join me on a Lenten journey? Over the last few weeks, I was inspired to write what could be described as an epic poem. It tells the story of a spiritual journey through Lent in 14 stanzas that takes a person from Ash Wednesday through Easter morning.

Lent is a time of reflection and recommitment. Ash Wednesday begins the 40-day period of Lent during which we remember our sinfulness, repent, ask God's forgiveness, and recognize that God's forgiveness comes at a great price—the death of Christ on the cross on our behalf. The 40-day Lenten season takes place over the course of 46 days. This occurs because Sundays are not included in the Lenten Season—Sunday, sometimes referred to as a mini-Easter, is always to be a celebration of Christ's glorious resurrection.

My poem – “A Lenten Journey – A Modern-Day Psalm” – will be divided into weekly devotions consisting of a short Lenten meditation followed by a Celebratory Praise which will be posted each Monday (replacing the usual Friday post-time) through the Lenten season beginning March 7th.

I suggest you take some time during the week to reflect on the Lenten meditation—see if you can find some part of yourself in the words and then have a heart to heart conversation with God about it. Then on Sunday, take some time to celebrate the love and grace God has lavished on you. The poem in its entirety will be posted on Easter Sunday allowing the opportunity for us to look back on the journey we’ve taken together and to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a heart full of gratitude and love!

May you be blessed in the journey!
